On Modern Mathematical Tools in Mechanics

From September 08-19, 2025, the University of Douala of Cameroon (through its Faculty of Science) and the Technical University of Braunschweig of Germany (through the Computational Sciences in Engineering study program and the Center for Mechanics Uncertainty and Simulation in Engineering – MUSEN) will jointly organize a CIMPA Summer School at the University of Douala. This event, supported by the Advanced Sciences and Technology Academy, a leading private institution in Douala, will focus on the theme: «Modern Mathematical Tools in Mechanics».

A group of scholars (including five from Germany, one from Senegal, one from South Africa, and several Cameroonian lecturers) will train young African researchers, including Master’s and Ph.D students as well as lecturers. The training will focus on essential mathematical science tools such as Python and Data Science for Engineers, Research Software Engineering, Mathematical Modeling with ODEs and PDEs, Numerical Analysis for ODEs and PDEs, and Coastal Zone Modeling. These tools and techniques will be applied to address challenges in mechanics and various other fields, with a strong emphasis on tailoring solutions to the unique environmental contexts of our country, Cameroon.

The school aims to advance mathematical modeling in engineering across Africa, led by African researchers and supported by German expertise, paving the way for a future Africa-Germany research network in this field.
